Saad Signal publishes work by people who deal with Brazil professionally: lawyers, economists, consultants, executives, academics, public officials writing in a personal capacity. Guest pieces appear under Other Signals, with your name and a short note on who you are.

What fits

A piece that helps a reader decide something. A rule that changed and what it now costs; a mechanism that works differently in practice than on paper; a number that contradicts the received account; a market moving for reasons outsiders misread. The reader is an experienced decision-maker who does not know Brazil. Assume competence, not context.

What does not

Pieces about your firm, your product or your practice. Summaries of legislation without a reading of it. Commentary on a case you are acting in. General optimism or general pessimism about the country. Anything already published elsewhere.

Before you write

Send one paragraph to saad@saadsignal.com: what you would argue, and why you are the person to argue it. I answer within a week, and I would rather say no to a paragraph than to a finished piece. Unsolicited full drafts are read, eventually.

If we go ahead

Between 900 and 1,400 words. In English, and it does not need to be elegant English: clarity is edited, style is left alone. Every figure carries a source I can open, and every legal assertion its provision or decision. Original and exclusive to Saad Signal for thirty days, after which you may republish it anywhere with a link back.

I edit for structure, length and clarity, and you see the edited version before it goes out. Nothing is published over your objection. Nothing is paid: what you get is a byline read by people who make decisions about Brazil, and a page of your own under Who writes here.

One condition, and it is not negotiable

Disclose any interest in what you are writing about. A client, a position, a holding, a mandate. It does not disqualify the piece. Concealing it does.
